Podkstr multitrack editor with the compressor of a voice track open

One person, the whole chain

A podcast made alone means recording, editing, setting the sound and then publishing. These steps usually spread across several programs, and setting the sound assumes knowing what a compressor or a de-esser does. That is often where a show slows down: time goes into intermediate exports, and the sound gives away the lack of practice.

One workshop

Podkstr brings recording, editing, RSS feed hosting and publishing together in the browser. A file recorded elsewhere can also be imported into the editor, which then becomes the starting point of the edit.

Each track takes eleven effects: filter, EQ, noise gate, compressor, gain, echo, reverb, limiter, soft clipper, de-esser and stereo width. Each one has a visual editor and named presets, such as "Podcast voice" for the EQ and the compressor. A master bus applies to the whole mix.

What is heard during the edit is what comes out of the export. The processing in the browser and the processing on the render server are kept identical, effect by effect.

Platform loudness

An episode that sounds right on headphones and too quiet in the street is the most common flaw of a podcast made alone. At export, the level is measured, then brought to -16 LUFS, the level Apple Podcasts recommends, and a limiter holds back the peaks. A checkbox, ticked by default, turns this processing off for anyone who masters elsewhere, and the choice stays saved with the project.

A room that rings is treated from the bin. The cleanup removes the echo from the voice, uses one AI credit and keeps the original alongside, for comparison or to go back.

Occasional guests

An invite link is enough to bring in a guest, with no account and no app on the guest's side. Each voice arrives on its own track and is adjusted separately during the edit. The details are on the Remote interview page.

Result for listeners

Switching from one program to another goes away. A preset gives a starting point, and the visual editor shows what the effect does to the signal: technical skill becomes useful without being a prerequisite. The episode comes out at the same loudness as the ones around it in a listening queue.

The eleven effects and the master bus are open on every plan, the free one included. Plans differ by volume: tracks, episodes, storage, renders, AI credits and live duration, listed on the pricing page.

Current gaps

Listening statistics are not available yet. The host studio and the editor need a computer and do not open on a phone. The render produces an MP3 file.
